Book Arts & Bookbinding

The book arts studio is a space for study, practice and creation around traditional and artistic bookbinding, the artist’s book, typography and related techniques.

The Triton & Shell bookbinding and book arts studio is a space for the study and practice of the structure, construction, and artistic dimensions of the book. Its activities range from traditional hand bookbinding techniques to contemporary approaches that consider the book as an artistic medium in its own right.

Through the study of historical binding structures, materials, and techniques, the studio explores the ways in which paper, thread, cloth, leather, and other materials come together to form the book as a functional, artistic, and cultural object. It also supports practices including hand bookbinding, the creation of artist books, typography, and other techniques associated with the book arts.
