From Collection to Creative Space — Hand Papermaking Newsletter | issue 153

Andreas Fatouros’s article “Triton & Shell, From Collection to Creative Space” was published in issue 153 of Hand Papermaking Newsletter in January 2026, as part of its Community and Culture section.
The article traces the journey that led to the creation of Triton & Shell, beginning with an interest in paper conservation and the collecting of books and paper-related material, and following the gradual transformation of a personal collection into a space dedicated to the study, exhibition and living practice of paper and the book.
It introduces the development of the collection, the creation of the space in Athens, and the establishment of Triton & Shell as a nonprofit organisation bringing together collection, exhibitions, research, conservation and handmade papermaking workshops. The article also acknowledges the people who contributed to the project and the importance of donations of books, documents and tools to the continuing development of the collection.
The publication represents an early international presentation of the history and approach of Triton & Shell to the wider handmade-paper community.
