Masterclass “Study in Black” with Maria Genitsariou at Onassis Stegi

Visual artist and calligrapher Maria Genitsariou, a founding member of Triton & Shell – Paper Art Hub, will present the masterclass “Study in Black” at Onassis Stegi on Sunday, 17 January 2027, as part of the Onassis Masterclasses 2026–27 programme.
The masterclass explores black as a material, a colour and a field of artistic research. Inks, pigments, writing tools, brushes and different types of paper from Europe and Japan provide the starting point for a hands-on investigation into the qualities, tonal variations and expressive possibilities of black.
“Study in Black” was first presented in February 2024 as part of the 9th edition of the “Ink on Paper” initiative, curated by Paris Kapralos. In November 2025, Triton & Shell hosted Maria Genitsariou for a workshop dedicated to “Study in Black”, continuing her exploration of materials, techniques and the expressive possibilities of black ink in contemporary artistic practice.
The presentation of “Study in Black” at Onassis Stegi marks another stage in the development of this ongoing research, while also bringing calligraphy, ink and paper into the programme of the Onassis Masterclasses.
