Based in Halle (Saale) in former East Germany, Gerth became particularly known for her work with Papierbatik techniques. A student of Ingrid Schultheiß, she was associated with the postwar revival of hand-decorated papers in Germany. Her work was presented, among other exhibitions, in Buntpapier – Geschichte und Herstellungstechnik at the German Museum of Books and Writing in Leipzig in 1991, while in 1996 the Hallescher Kunstverein presented her solo exhibition Papierbatik. Examples of her decorated papers are held in the Leipzig museum’s collection.

The equipment was entrusted to Triton & Shell by her son, Dieter Gerth, and is now preserved as part of our Historical Archive and workshops.
